This blog deals with issue of exchange connector which results in stop error message. Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes stops with given error message:

“Error opening mailbox domain/server!! Exchange.bad”

This peculiar behavior might occur when you start the MS Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes. At the time of unseen problem, the Convert and Transfer processes is displayed as stopped in the Exchange Connectivity Administrator program.

Reason behind this issue is presence of corrupted Exchange.bad mailbox on the Lotus Notes server or absence of Exchange.bad mailbox. The Exchange.bad mailbox is created throughout installation of the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes. However, in some cases the file is not created and an attempt to create the Exchange.bad mailbox may not work.

To workaround this issue, add a mail router mailbox for Exchange.bad to the Notes desktop. For this, go with the following steps:

On the File menu, click Database, and then click New.

In the Template list, click Mail Router Mailbox.

In the Title box, type Exchange Bad Mail to name the file.

In the File Name box, type exchange.bad.

Click OK to save the changes.

In the C:\Notes\Data folder, verify that the Exchange.bad file exists.

Restart the Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes service.

Perform easy and flawless email migration from Lotus Notes to Exchange using sophisticated Kernel for Lotus Notes to Exchange email migration software.

It is quite common situation that you come across when task information is not migrated properly and completely during Lotus Notes to exchange migration. This happens when you export Lotus Notes profile user’s email messages, calendar information and task information from calendar to Exchange 2000 Server with the use of Migration Wizard for Exchange 2000.
During Notes to Exchange migration, some migrated users complain that their tasks got migrated to their Outlook Tasks folders.

The reason behind this issue is that the Migration Wizard exports only the tasks that were included in Lotus Notes calendar. However, it works differently while migrating tasks for Lotus Notes. In order to resolve this issue, follow the procedure given below on the tasks for migrating calendar items.

Open your Notes mailbox in Notes 4.6x client

Change to the “To-Do” folder

Open the task that was not migrated

Now click the Display task on my calendar button. Button will then change to Remove from calendar

Save the task

Run Migration Wizard for Exchange 2000 again, the task is migrated to Exchange 2000

If you don’t get successful this way, then opt for third party tool for Notes to Exchange migration. Dealing with incomplete migration often results in loss of important data. Hence it is recommended that whenever you need to perform Notes to Exchange migration, switch to professional third party tools.

Migration of business email data from one platform to another has become quite a common phenomenon in working environment. Need of migration arises when an organization decides to cut-down the IT cost or as per their business service risk alleviation policy or need of new data environment due to inability of previous option to perform as per requirement. With the ever-evolving working schedules and application requirement, the dynamic operational environment is changing consistently and therefore, several organizations decide to engrave their migration strategy as per their financial requirement.

But before deciding on migration, have you ever considered about the safety of your emails while performing Notes to Exchange migration? We know that data migration initiative becomes imperative with latest technology coming in, but the most important thing is data migration is also full of risks and challenges such as loss of data integrity, unreliable quality and data loss. All this often happens due to applications used for migration of data. Majority of problems arise due to inadequate knowledge of migration and proper understanding of migration methodology as well as tools used for execution. What more, Notes to Exchange migration is often neglected and an under-estimated activity.

Lack of detailed documentation, heavily maintained application, large codes and data, murky application platforms result in data loss situation that is obviously not good for your organization. Therefore while migrating from one application platform to another always ensure that you have enough knowledge of both platforms, database structure, compatibility environment etc, so that you don’t lose vital business data just with a single mistake. Always make sure that the application you are switching to meets the following scenarios:

Portability/mobility

Connectivity

All-time availability of data

Proficiently piled up data for ease in access

Easy-to-manage database

Use third party Lotus Notes to Exchange migration tool for migrating from Lotus Notes to Exchange. Kernel for NSF to PST is an effective tool for migration of data from Lotus Notes to Exchange.

Lotus Notes was designed with the aim to provide users a collaborative email client, which can run on multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, OS/2, SCO Open Desktop UNIX, and Linux. Fortunately the software supports multiple operating systems as it was aimed but with some flaws. Following are the issues with Lotus Notes to Exchange :

Because the software has been designed with the aim of supporting multiple operating systems, its user interface becomes complicated.

There are also compatibility problem with client applications.

Due to complicated user interface, users find it difficult to quickly and flawlessly create, edit, or/and forward emails, contacts, notes, etc. through Lotus Notes. Organizations need to educate their employees to let them easily use the software. But, when the organizations found that even after providing a rigorous training about using Lotus Notes, employees are having problems in send/receive operations along with compatibility issues; organizations start looking towards MS Outlook with a new hope of easy-to-use email client. The difficult user interface really disappoints organizations because a significant time of their employees is wasted in just dealing with Lotus Notes.

MS Outlook has comparatively simple user interface than Lotus Notes and does not have any compatibility issue. Therefore, a large number of organizations are now using MS Outlook that were previously using Lotus Notes. However, while switching from Lotus Notes to Outlook, organizations need to perform Notes to Exchange migration to transfer users’ mailboxes from Lotus Notes Domino Server to Outlook’s Exchange Server.

Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook- Notes to Exchange Migration software effectively converts the NSF files of Lotus Notes into PST files of Outlook. The software also directly transfers users’ mailboxes from Domino Server to Exchange Server. While migrating users’ mailboxes, Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook- Notes to Exchange Migration software maintains structure and formatting of email items stored in the mailboxes. The software supports all versions of Lotus Notes, Domino Server, MS Outlook, and MS Exchange Server.

There was a time when Lotus Notes and Domino Server were the first choice of organizations as an email client and email server. But, with the release of Exchange Server 2003, the choice of most of the users started changing. Organizations now prefer using MS Outlook and MS Exchange Server as email client and email server respectively than Lotus Notes and Domino Server. Following are some of the reasons due to which organizations are migrating from Lotus Notes to Exchange:

Lotus Notes has compatibility issues with some of the third-party software applications, which interrupts users in their work.

User interface of MS Outlook is much easier to understand than the user interface of Lotus Notes; therefore, organizations do not need to spend lots of money on employees training.

There are many third-party tools available in the market that enable you to perform Lotus Notes to Exchange migration. But, those tools can work as add on and rely on the Exchange Notes Connector (a utility from Microsoft that helps performing Notes to Exchange migration). Therefore, you must have good knowledge about using Exchange Notes Connector along with the third-party Notes to Exchange migration tool. Why do you use two different and difficult utilities when users’ mailboxes from Domino Server can be migrated to Exchange Server using a single utility?

Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook is an efficient, affordable, and reliable Notes to Exchange migration tool, which does not rely on any software application. The software works as a separate utility and provides you the easiest platform to convert .nsf files into .pst files and to migrate the users’ mailboxes directly from Domino Server to Exchange Server. Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook supports all versions of Lotus Notes, Domino Server, Outlook, and Exchange Server.

Lotus Notes and Outlook are the most commonly used email clients in organizations that synchronize with Domino Server and Exchange Server respectively to establish email communication. Both of these email clients are feature rich. However, besides that you may need to switch from Domino Server of Lotus Notes to Outlook’s Exchange Server.

One of the scenario in which you have to switch from Lotus Notes to Exchange can be – you have been transferred to another branch of your organization and you want to bring all email messages with you because they are very important and you may anytime need one or more out of those email messages. But, the problem is that at new location you are provided with MS Outlook instead of Lotus Notes. Therefore, you cannot directly access your email messages because they are in unsupportable Outlook format. To access email messages with Outlook, you first have to convert them into Outlook supportable format that is from .nsf to .pst format. For this purpose, you can use Exchange Migration wizard. However, the Exchange Migration wizard sometimes stops the migration process in between and puts you in a dreadful situation.

Actually when you try migrating email messages from Lotus Notes environment to Exchange environment then Notes.pkl and Directory.pri files are created successfully. But, sometimes the 00000001.pri and 00000001.sec files are not created. At that time, Exchange Migration wizard gets automatically closed leaving the migration process in between.

Reason:

The aforementioned issue often occurs when user’s account using which you are doing migration does not have sufficient rights to access Organization, Site, and Server containers in Exchange Server Administrator program.

Solution:

Abrupt closing of Exchange Migration Wizard can lead to data loss; therefore, before starting the migration process, you must ensure that you have logged in using the service account. If you log in using the service account then the mentioned issue does not occur thus, there will be no fear of data loss.

In case, you face the specified issue even after undertaking the preceding solution, you can use Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook, a third-party migration tool, which has been designed for easy and successful migration of email messages from Lotus Notes environment to Exchange environment. If you use Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook to migrate email messages from Lotus Notes to Exchange then you do not have to face panic situations that generally occur with Exchange Migration Wizard. The software supports Lotus Notes 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0, all versions of Exchange Server and MS Outlook.

One of the most prominent issues that crop up is the unexpected shutting of Exchange Server migration wizard. This creates panic among the users as the fear of data loss is always there. When you use the Exchange Server Migration Wizard in MS Exchange Server 2003 to migrate a Lotus Notes mailbox, the Exchange Server Migration Wizard all of a sudden stops responding, while exporting the Lotus Notes Calendar items.

Reason

The main reason behind this vague behavior of Exchange Server migration wizard is the corruption. Whenever the Lotus Notes mailbox .NSF file contains corrupted data within, Lotus Notes to Exchange Migration Wizard may unexpectedly stop responding when it tries to process the corrupted data. Hence the outcome is incomplete or unsuccessful migration from Lotus Notes to MS Exchange Server.

The best way out for dealing with such issue is to obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server 2003. The latest versions are free from any previous anomalies existing. If still you are not finding the exact solution, then go for some third party email migration tools. They are thorough professional tools that migrate each and every item from Lotus Notes to Exchange Server.
